Abhinav Bindra, the Hero we Need

After watching the incredibly impressive, stupendous Opening ceremony at Beijing, I was awestruck. And seeing the chinese contingent, i cultivated a respect for the chinese people. Also i was deeply worried if we, Indians could be able give a similar performance ? What would be reason for the poor contribution from a country like India despite its sound resources ?

  • Is it just politics ?
  • Is it lack of resources ?
  • Is it lack of encouragement?
  • Is it lack of Hope?
  • Is it lack of interest?
  • Is it the culture, that makes us to stick to academics?
  • Or is it Cricket, (some say so)?

Whatever !

We should be Men of Action ! Lets stop complaining about the past and find a way to excel in par with our neighbouring countries.

Remember "Enemy at the Gates" ... If you haven't seen the film, take some time to watch this clip from the movie, a truly inspiring and philosophical one.

Its too metophorical that we ,Indians , are in the same situation as the USSR . We are in desperate need of a Hero, an Example , a Hope . And today, we got Abhinav Bindra, just like Sergeant Vassili Zaitsev. At this point of time he is not just a Olympics Gold Medal winner, but He means something...something bigger than himself ! The whole country is looking at him !

As said in the film, we must use the way of love of the Motherland, we must tell magnificient stories, stories that seed hope in parents to let their child excel in sports, we must make them believe in victory, fame and pride. WE NEED AN EXAMPLE to follow. Its not still 1942 , to rely just on print and radio . With the extensive reach of the satellite News Channels and the internet, Make Abhinav famous , Give him credits that no one expected , declare Tax exemptions for the winners and also for the sponsors of the winners, announce special reservations for them and do what all you can to make them feel great. There is nothing more attractive than fame and respect . People will start to shift paradigm. Everything will fall into places. Here is that historic moment in Indian Sports.

Lately I felt happy to see the advertisements for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth games in NDTV . Lets wish it all success. Lets prove the
world !

all we lack is de infrastructure.....abinav has got fully sophisticated his own shooting ground in his home,,,his father is a rich man who can afford to buy his son 1500$ air rifle at his very early age....abinav was hardly spotted in the national shooting rifle academy which he admits himself and the clubs president too admits....if govt can fund heavily the sports ministry surely we can expect to bag gold in large no of events at london.....though abinav has entered into history it should never be forgotten that rathore is the fore runner of it....we can also pin our hopes on saina

After the mean show by China over the Tibet, i thought, there would be a strong opposition by all the countries during the olympics'08. Thanks to those who didnt link sports with politics.
Bindra's Gold medal came as an expect the unexpected to the Indians. The whole of India was expecting the veteran shooters to bring glory to their country and there were no news or expectations that youngsters like Bindra and saina will bring us what the veteran shooters were expected to do. This clearly shows the veterans are always failing as was the case in the Test Cricket in Lanka where the expected middle order failed miserably in all the three test matches. According to me, its high time that India noticed the young talent and supported them to make up more ones like Brinda.

@ viky
Its one hundred percent true that we lack the reqd infrastructures... But in the first place, we lack the talent pool necessary to compete in THE RACE . I mean, the number of persons who dedicate their life to sports or who is ready to take up sports as a profession is very less. This situation should change. It involves a radical change in our culture, society and ultimately in the thoughts of our parents. In our country its still parents who decide the childs career.

Once we are done with this , we should concentrate on providing the necessary assistance. Luckily with the help of the private body supports like the Lakshmi Mittal's Trust and the TATA's who indentify and nourish the talents, And ofcourse with much more contribution from our sports ministry , we should be able to make our dreams come true.

@ Raghul
With all hard work, training and practice, its also LUCK sometimes...
As Abhinav he himself said, it was just his day and the next day , it might be someone else's...

And u too , join here soon, lets have fun... :)

Its the lack of money into sports..!!!

They say.... China spends in sports...the same money we spend for defence/.....

So therefore no facilities for talent improval...
